Here is information on availability of a 4-Port serial card. It is fully
configurable - Com 1-8, IRQ 2-7 - and to all of the associated base
addresses. The serial card's UART chips are all socketed. The card comes
with 1 port populated, the Chips to populate the second port, and a chassis
mountable 3rd port serial cable for the total of $67.00 plus shipping.
This card can be purchased from:
Network P.C. 402-470-3446 Voice
5020 N.W. 39th Street 402-470-3179 Fax
Lincoln, NE 68501
p/n AT2006 4 port serial 1-populated $50.00
p/n AT2007 Serial port upgrade* 17.00
--------
$ 67.00
* The card and the upgrade kit UART chips are 16450's. Simply replace
those with the 16550's for use with the DS and 14.4 HST modems.
Installation and setup is easily accomplished since all 4 UART's are
socketed. The accompaning manual provides adequate information for proper
setup of Comm ports, IRQ's and base addresses. The card itself has one DB-
25 port 1 and a DB-9 port 2 already mounted on it, so with the upgrade kit
you have essentially all you need (less one 1888 & one 1889 chip) for three
ports. A second upgrade kit - or the standard breakout ribbon cable from
almost any dealer - will give you a fourth port.
For 3 serial ports, 1 parallel port, and a game port, I recommend the
Everex EV170B I/O card. This card retails for around $69 with one
serial port populated. All Uarts on this card are socketed.
